Mono County is a county in eastern California. It's largest city is Bridgeport. Mono County shares a border with Alpine County to the north, the state of Nevada to the east, Inyo County and Fresno County to the south, and Madera County and Tuolumne County to the west.
The county is named after nearby Mono Lake, a large, saline soda lake covered in strange rock formations, caused by volcanic activity.
Mono County is also one of the several counties that makes up Toiyabe National Forest, the largest U.S. national forest outside of Alaska. In "High Adventure 2009", The Young Men go on a backpacking trip from Leavitt Meadows Campground outside Mono, all throughout the Hoover Wilderness area of Toiyabe National Forest, to Leavitt Lake.
